Kelechi Iheanacho shines as ManCity defeats Man United at Old Trafford
Manchester United have lost 2-1 to Manchester City on Saturday after appearing to struggle to keep up with the pace of the game in the first half.
The Citizens started the game quickly, taking the game to the Red Devils.
Jose Mourinho’s team couldn’t deal with their quick passing and movement, and were carved open numerous times before Kevin de Bruyne took advantage of some poor defending from Daley Blind and Eric Bailly to hit the back of the net.
Little changed after the goal, with Kelechi Iheanacho the next to score after De Bruyne saw a shot cannon off the post to the Nigeria international.
However, goalkeeper Claudio Bravo won’t want to watch the next ten minutes back, after allowing Zlatan Ibrahimovic to take advantage of a horrible mistake and make it 2-1.
The Swede scored a finely struck volley after Bravo failed to claim a ball he had come out to catch from a Wayne Rooney free kick – leading to some questioning over the decision to loan out Joe Hart.
Bravo was nearly at fault for another goal just minutes later with Ibrahimovic failing to get enough power on the finish after the Chilean struggled to control a through ball.
The second half saw both teams going for the goal which would either put the game to bed or bring it to life – with Mourinho’s decision to bring off the struggling Jesse Lingard and Henrikh Mkhitaryan having a clear effect.
However, United’s resurgence wasn’t enough to win them a point, with the side tiring towards the end after being forced to chase shadows for much of the encounter.
The pace of Leroy Sane and Kevin de Bruyne on the counter-attack threatened to end the game for good in the final ten minutes, but in the end the Sky Blues had to hang on for the 2-1 victory.
