Health Tips: 8 Things to Eliminate from Your Bedroom for Better Sleep

If you have trouble falling asleep every night – even if you follow an advice and leave your gadgets two hours before bedtime – or you feel like you are suffocating in your bedroom, chances are you still have these eight things I am going to talk about.

Although these seemingly essential things are helpful and cute, some of them actually deserve their place in the trash or living room. Check out the list of the things to eliminate from your bedroom today to get better sleep many nights to come.

1. Outdated gadgets

I know you loved your very first cell phone or computer or laptop, but keeping all those old gadgets in your bedroom is a really bad idea. Not only do they clutter your space, but also have a negative impact on your health.

2. Chargers

If you do not use those chargers, get rid of them. Throw away the old ones and store those you use in another room. The last thing you need in your bedroom is fraying cables or phone chargers.

3. Old magazines and books

Reading before sleep is healthy and helpful, especially if you suffer from insomnia. However, if you do not read those magazines and books anymore, eliminate them from your bedroom for less clutter and better sleep. Donate them to a local library, give a friend or toss in the trash if they are in poor condition.

4. Mattress

The National Sleep Foundation claims that a worn-out mattress is one of the back pain culprits. Saggy mattress causes discomfort and reduces our sleep quality. Invest in a high-quality mattress or try to repair your old one if you are on a budget. You will feel the difference, I promise.

5. Pillow

When was the last time you replaced your pillow? 5 years ago? 10? 15? Old pillows prevent us from sleeping well, not to mention that they can cause headaches and neck pain. If your pillow does not bounce back into its shape after you fold it in half, it is time to replace it with a new one. Just make sure you invest in a high-quality pillow.

6. Heavy blankets

With a cold season upon us, we all wrap ourselves in those heavy blankets and warm pjs without realizing that those cozy things affect the quality of our sleep. It turns out, the higher your body temperature, the poorer your sleep.

7. Pets

Okay, you will not toss them in the trash, I hope, but leaving your furry friend overnight can be a huge mistake. I love my puppy and my old but still adorable cat, but I tend to keep them away from my bedroom for one obvious reason – they both disrupt my sleep and I always have trouble falling back to sleep. Plus, pets tend to wake us early in the morning – the bad news for night owls.

8. Makeup

Many of us are guilty of keeping those favorite beauty products after they expire. Yes, you spend your hard-earned money on them and you have not used them yet, but do you know that all those products spread harmful bacteria? Check out your makeup bag today and throw out anything that is past its expiration date.

While you will definitely not toss all these in the trash (literally), removing them from your bedroom will significantly improve your sleep. What are the things you think prevent you from getting high-quality sleep?
