Diego Costa outstrips Sergio Aguero with new record goal for Chelsea
Diego Costa reached a new landmark for Chelsea in Sunday’s 2-0 victory over Southampton. The Spain international netted his 40th Premier League goal to help keep Antonio Conte’s side just a point behind leaders Manchester City, who top the table on goal difference.
Costa needed 64 appearances to reach his 40-goal milestone – and the 28-year-old managed to reach that mark in seven matches fewer than Sergio Aguero for Manchester City.
Eden Hazard put Chelsea ahead after just six minutes with a fine individual solo effort.
But the goal of the game was left to Costa, who struck a neatly curled effort past Fraser Forster from 25 yards out.
