SPORTS: Chelsea Manager Antonio Conte imports Italian sweets to prevent him losing his voice

Antonio Conte's Chelsea revolution is being aided by soothing honey sweets that he is having specially imported from Italy.

Head coach Conte shouts so much at his players that he can barely speak after training sessions and matches.

The noisy approach has paid dividends so far, as Chelsea have won four successive Premier League games and are just a point behind joint leaders Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool.

But Telegraph Sport can reveal that Conte is having to ship in bags of Ambrosoli al Miele sweets from Italy to sooth his under-pressure vocal chords.

The 47-year-old is said to munch through several packets of the sweets during the week at Chelsea’s Cobham training ground and had to quickly finish one before conducting his television interviews following Sunday’s 2-0 victory over Southampton.

Conte was dismayed to find that his favourite brand is not widely sold in the UK when he first arrived at Chelsea and quickly arranged a method of getting them into London.

The Ambrosoli company, which was founded in 1923, is based in Ronago, northwest of Milan on the border with Switzerland.

Having famously used a megaphone to shout instructions at his players during training when he first started out in coaching, Conte now relies solely on his voice.

With no European fixtures to worry about, Conte gave his voice and his players a two-day break after the victory over Southampton.

Chelsea have kept four successive Premier League clean sheets since Conte switched to a three-man defence and Gary Cahill believes he and his team-mates are proving a point to their critics.
