Kenyan couple name their son Donald Trump, fend off criticism
A Kenyan couple have named their baby after the President-Elect of the United States, Donald Trump. The couple in the Kisumu county area said the choice of name was because they liked Trump’s business principles.
The baby, Donald Trump Otieno, was born to Mr Felix Otieno and Ms Lorna Akoth on August 9 this year. The couple said there was a party planned to celebrate the 3-month old baby Trump.
He said the child was named after Trump long before the elections at a time even he doubted if Trump could upset the odds. “At the time, I was not sure whether Mr Trump would pull a surprise victory but I had the conviction the businessman had what it took to be a leader,” Mr Otieno said.
He was frank and firm. At least he spoke the truth without using propaganda or lies to win votes. We loved him and had to name our son after him.
They had come in for criticism from a section of Kenyans over the choice of name but in an interview with the local newspaper, Daily Nation news portal, they defended their decision to name their child after Mr Trump.
“Most politicians are not sincere like him. I admired him because he is a man who says what he thinks,” he added.
On her part, baby Trump’s mother said she admired the President-Elect’s posture and frankness despite the media backlash. “He was frank and firm. At least he spoke the truth without using propaganda or lies to win votes. We loved him and had to name our son after him,” she told the Daily Nation.
Kenyans according to news reports were disappointed at the loss of Hillary Clinton in the November 8 polls. The former Secretary of State was the preferred choice of incumbent President Obama – whose father, Barack Obama Sr is a Kenyan.
