Arsene Wenger: I want four more years at Arsenal

Arsene Wenger wants to continue managing into his seventies and admitted he hopes to do that at the Emirates.

The Arsenal boss is out of contract in June and is under real pressure to step down from his post at the club after a 5-1 Champions League drubbing at the hands of Bayern Munich.

Arsenal are also 10 points behind Chelsea at the top of the table and there’s plenty of unrest among the supporters about their lack of progress under Wenger in recent years.

Should they go out of the FA Cup to non-league Sutton United on Monday night, Wenger could be forced to walk away.

But the Arsenal boss hopes to carry on in similar fashion to Manchester United legend Sir Alex Ferguson.

‘Maybe I can do more than four years, more, maybe less. I don’t know,’ he said.

‘I’m not making threats about leaving. My preference is always to manage Arsenal.

‘I have shown that throughout my time with the club.‘Alex Ferguson has some other interests in life and he was older than I was today. He was four years older and he retired at 71 and I’m 67.

‘Everybody is different on that front. Alex Ferguson was an unbelievable manager but he had enough and I’m not at that stage.’
