Nelson Mandela's Wife, Winnie hospitalised
The wife of former South African anti-apartheid veteran, Nelson Mandela, Winnei Madikizela was on Thursday admitted to a hospital according to a statement released by her family. “ Mandela went to the hospital for routine medical checkup on Wednesday, March 8. A decision was taken to admit her for further observation,” the statement reads. Madikizela-Mandela, 80, was in hospital for several weeks last year for back surgery. The former first lady during her husband’s 27 year incarcerations for his fight against apartheid, campaigned for his release and for the rights of black south Africans, in detention, banished or arrested. Mandela died in 2013 and made no mention of Madikizela-Mandela in his will. According to media reports, she plans to contest the will in court.
