Who will win the battle for the Premier League golden boot?

Nearly everything has already been settled before the end of the Premier League season this weekend.

However the battle for the Golden Boot will go to the wire with three strikers tussling to end the season as top scorer.

Harry Kane now leads the way after his incredible four-goal performance against Leicester on Thursday. The Tottenham striker has 26 for the season. Everton striker Romelu Lukaku is just behind on 24 goals with Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez is on 23. Chelsea striker Diego Costa is on 20, but the likelihood of him scoring six goals on the final day are slim at best.

So which one of the leading trio will come out on top? We’ve taken a look at their form, final fixtures and why they deserve to win the award.

Harry Kane – 26 goals

Final fixture: Hull City (away)

Form: Kane has played far fewer minutes than his rivals and thus has a way better minutes per goal ratio. He’s scored once every 94 minutes compared to 137 for Sanchez and 132 for Lukaku. That would suggest he’s more likely to score than the others on the final day of the season. With eight goals in his last seven outings (and a staggering four against Leicester) he should have the confidence to do it as well.

Record vs Hull: He failed to score against Hull earlier in the season but did find the back of the net on his most recent visit to the KC Stadium.

Why he deserves to win it: Kane has already joined a very select group by matching Thierry Henry, Ruud van Nistelrooy and Alan Shearer in scoring over 20 goals in three consecutive Premier League seasons. He can become the first player since Robin van Persie to win the award in consecutive seasons, with the Dutchman achieving it in 2011/12 and 2012/13. The last Englishman to do it was Alan Shearer, who won it three seasons in a row from 1995 to 1997. At 23-years of age it’s clear the Tottenham striker is on the way to becoming a goal scoring legend – plus he’s English. If you like your top scorers home grown then look no further.

Romelu Lukaku – 24 goals

Final fixture: Arsenal (away)

Form: When Harry Kane picked up an injury recently it looked as though Lukaku was a certainty to win the award. However the goals have dried up for the 24-year-old in recent weeks – he hasn’t scored a goal in four outings.

Record vs Arsenal: Lukaku drew a blank when Everton beat Arsenal 2-1 earlier in the season. He failed to score in the four previous meetings as well. We’d have to go back to April 2014 for the last time he scored against the Gunners.

Why he deserves to win it: Lukaku would become the first golden boot winner playing for a side outside the top six sides since Kevin Phillips did it for Sunderland back in 1999/2000. If you like an underdog, Lukaku is your man.

Alexis Sanchez – 23 goals

Final fixture: Everton (home)

Form: Alexis Sanchez was out of the picture until he scored four goals in his last three games. Of the contenders he’s definitely the form player. He scored against Southampton, Stoke and then bagged both goals in the 2-0 win over Sunderland this week.

Record vs Everton: Sanchez will know roughly what he needs to do on Sunday as one of his fellow contenders for the golden boot will be on the same pitch. He’ll also know he needs to repeat what he did earlier this season which is score against the Toffees. Sanchez found the back of the net in Arsenal’s 2-1 defeat at Goodison Park. He’d never scored against them before that.

Why he deserves to win it: Not only has Sanchez scored goals this season but also assists – he’s the only player to be in double figures on both. If you like players who do more than put the ball in the back of the net then root for Sanchez.
