Arsene Wenger hits out at abusive Arsenal fans
Arsene Wenger has hit out at a section of protesting Arsenal fans with some strong words ahead of today’s FA Cup final clash with Chelsea.
The Gunners boss has been under pressure after bad results midway through this season, which saw the club drop out of the top four for the first time in his 20-year reign.
Wenger’s contract is up this summer, and with some humiliating results in the Champions League, a growing number of Arsenal fans protested against him being given a new contract.
It remains to be seen if the Frenchman will renew, though reports suggest a two-year deal is on the table for him regardless of today’s result against Chelsea.
Still, Wenger believes abuse coming his way got out of hand at points, and has labelled that minority of fans ‘a disgrace’ and admits he can never forgive their behaviour.
‘The lack of respect in some stage has been for me a disgrace, and I will never accept that,’ he told Football Focus.
‘I believe there is a difference between being criticised and being treated in a way that human beings don’t deserve to be treated. And I will never forget that.’
