Nigerian Man, Henry Bello killed one and injured others In New York Hospital
The man who stormed a New York hospital killing one and injuring others has been identified as former employee Dr Henry Bello, say police.
The NYPD said several people have been injured after gunfire broke out at 2.50pm on Friday inside the Bronx Lebanon Hospital in the Bronx.
New York Police Department spokesman J. Peter Donald tweeted Friday afternoon that the shooter had died.
Officers went floor by floor looking for the gunman and reported just before 4pm that the shooter was dead inside the building. He is believed to have killed himself.
The 45-year-old was a family medicine physician at the hospital. It was not immediately clear why he was no longer working at the hospital.
According to a law enforcement official, the shooter was wearing a lab coat and had the rifle concealed inside it.
Mayor Bill de Blasio said most victims are fighting for their lives.
He said: ‘I want to say thank God this was not an act of terrorism. It appears to be a work related matter.’
He went on to praise the response by emergency services, adding: ‘This was an horrific situation unfolding in a setting people associate with care and comfort, but even in the midst of this horror there were many, many acts of heroism.’
Police Commissioner James O’Neill confirmed the suspect tried to set himself on fire before he was found with a gunshot wound to the head.
He was found no more than 15 minutes after the first 911 call was made.
