Alleged Tax Fraud: Cristiano Ronaldo hints at Premier League return

Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo may have opened the door to a transfer back to the Premier League after admitting he’d like to return to England during his court case over alleged tax fraud.

The former Manchester United man has been linked several times with a move back to Old Trafford, where he shone in the earlier part of his career between 2003 and 2009.

Ronaldo is currently being investigated by Spanish tax authorities after a case was filed against him over unpaid taxes, though the player himself has insisted no wrongdoing on his part or on the part of his financial team.

Ronaldo, 32, says he never had such problems during his time in England, and that could be why he would look to move there again after finding himself in trouble in Spain.

‘In England I never had problems, that’s why I’d like to come back,’ he was quoted by Cadena SER.

‘I always taxed, always, in England and Spain, and I will always pay taxes, as you know, I can not hide anything, it would be ridiculous of me, I’m like an open book. Forbes magazine, for example, gets everything I earn.’

Ronaldo’s future seemed to be up in the air earlier this summer amid reports that he wanted out of Madrid, though those have since died down.

His team-mate Gareth Bale, however, could be on the market as Real look to spend big on the signing of Monaco striker Kylian Mbappe to replace him in their front three.

Ronaldo remains a vital part of Zinedine Zidane’s side, scoring 42 goals in 46 games last season, including a brace in the Champions League final victory over Juventus.

The Portugal international may have been suggesting he’d live in England again after his playing career is over, though the quote will undoubtedly excite some United fans who’ll feel they’d be his first port of call if he were to move to these shores again before retiring.
