Weird! Goat crowned king of a small town in Ireland (PHOTOS)
A goat was crowned king of a small town in rural south-west Ireland.
For the Puck Fair, one of Ireland’s oldest festivals, residents of the town of Killorglin take a wild mountain goat out of his habitat and crown him King Puck for the duration of the festival.
This year’s king goat was paraded through the town on before being crowned by the Queen of Puck – a local schoolgirl.
He appeared relaxed, if a little bemused, during his coronation ceremony.
‘I’ve seen it for the last 11 years so it’s nothing new, but when I first moved here from England I thought it was strange,’ festival-goer Ben Henry, 25, said.
‘I heard a fella today saying he’s been coming to Puck for 57 years, so that says a lot!’
The festival’s origins are unclear, but one local theory tells of a lone goat fleeing Oliver Cromwell’s troops and running into the village.
