Nigerian youths are now reading under tears – Prof. Olagoke
The Spiritual Leader of Shafaudeen In Islam worldwide, Prof. Sabitu Ariyo Olagoke has reiterated that the successive governments have bastardised the economy with lack of ability to refix it which has affected the education system to the extent that the students are now reading under tears.
He made this statement while delivering his lecture titled “THE NIGERIAN YOUTH: A BLEAK OR A BRIGHT FUTURE” during the 2nd anniversary of Straight Times Magazine at the NUJ Press Centre, Iyaganku, Ibadan.
According to him “Nigerian students are now reading under tears while the quality of education continues to nose dive.”
“We are now battling with kleptocracy and poverty as the extreme regime of the government and the governed (the masses).”
While comparing the education in the olden days with the present one, the Ajagun Esin of Ibadanland said during his own time, the students were given free meat, varieties of food, coffee milk and buarsry both at state and federal levels while today education is nothing to write home about.
“The search for credible leadership is for every stakeholders if we are to shun seccession and insurgence, terrorism and corruption.” He advised
In his keynote address, the publisher of Straight Times Magazine, Kunle Bakare opined that the current situation in the country has affected publishing outfits but despite all odds, with the grace of God, he is sustaining the newspaper.
